3/26/25 Lakes Update by Oregon_Stillwater_Jeff

Hey, with the weather so nice we are seeing a lot of friends get out on the water and finally adding some good lake action to the mix.
I wanted to take a minute to share a few things for you to get psyched about your own trips that may be coming up soon on an Oregon stillwater!

I got this awesome email from an old Masters Ski Racing friend this morning about Chickahominy yesterday:

Hi Jeff,

I went to Chickahominy yesterday afternoon and fished for a couple of hours. Nice day and at least 10 other vehicles there with people in pontoon boats.

After trying my usual, stripping a green leech, and also a balanced leech under an indicator, and not any action, I remembered the information in your report on using a Prince Nymph and that worked well. I was wading over on the northeast side.  Fish are thick and healthy looking, all were over 15”.

Thanks for your weekly reports.

I saw on the “gram” Mark R was on Haystack yesterday and was having some good fishing there. That fishery is just going to be better and better as we March past March and Hop into April. I also saw he launched his boat so the ramp is open.
Balanced Leeches have been the best at Haystack so far, but stripping leeches and hanging Chironomids will be smart choices too.

I had a group to Justesen Ranch yesterday and it was absolutely phenomenal fishing.
Water Boatman were on the move, including flying and diving and just plain getting hammered by the fish.
The Leech bite was also quite good and I had myself a day (!!!) using the Howard Croston Bung, 4.5X Fluoro and a Green/Red Chironomid on the point and Red Ice Cream Cone on the Dropper tag.
I am going to watch for another good day to organize a 2nd group outing, so if you want to get on that list let me know.

Lake Billy Chinook was good over the past few days for smaller to mid size Bulls on the Metolius Arm. Balanced Leeches and Balanced Minnows are good near the shorelines.
I would highly recommend a trip up the Crooked Arm and Deschutes Arm near where the currents of each river come in, and strip some bigger streamers on sink tips and full sink lines.

I am selling my Outcast Clearwater with anchor mount, anchor and anchor rope, scotty rod holder, 2 frameless pockets, oars and a drogue. I used this only at 3 Creek Lake a couple of times and the boat is like new. I just don’t use it with my other aluminum boats and it’s been hanging in the rafters of my boat shed for a year and half since it was last on the water.
$1495 for the package.

And a very special shout out to Sandy for taking to heart my request for a batch of cookies. I got some awesome chocolate biscotti delivered yesterday for the trip to the lakes! What a treat in the boat.
Also, thanks to Camp Sherman Dad for the Oatmeal/Chocolate Chip/M&M delivery on Monday.

It is great to see the lakes get rolling. I hope to add a Ochocco Reservoir report soon. So far only my friend Max went and it was slow. But that was before the massive improvement in the weather this week.
The forecast is more normal starting tomorrow but it looks like a bunch of good fishing days are headed our way.

I am headed towards Eugene soon to hit up my guide freind Adison Rook who is guiding the reservoirs over there for Smallmouth now. These fish are eating balanced leeches under the bobber and the bite is great.
If you are in Bend, Sisters, Eugene, Corvallis, Albany, Salem, Portland (area) take advantage of the $300 deal he has going now. That is for 1 or TWO people. Adison is the real deal for stillwater I personally guarantee it and his new boat is top notch for safety and comfort which many of of you know I am a stickler for that.
Check him out on Instagram @soggy.waders or call him at 541-570-3621 and get booked.
