Crooked River at 452

January 16, 2025flyfishersplace

The Crooked River is dropping back in shape. 452 cubic feet per second is still higher than the average summer flow which is 250 to 300 cfs, but 452 is a fine flow to fish at. Think about leeches and scuds getting washed around after flows that have been high for a couple of weeks. … Continue reading Crooked River at 452

A little mid January Fishing Update

January 13, 2025January 13, 2025flyfishersplace

It's a gorgeous winters day in Sisters, Oregon and a dry period of weather coming up which should see the rivers that have been high, drop quickly. Will it put the Crooked back in play? I think so. But not quite yet. The Metolius has even been a little colored up, so that will clear … Continue reading A little mid January Fishing Update

“New” Hatch alert

January 2, 2025flyfishersplace

Our friend Don came into the shop this evening wearing waders (always a good sign) and said there were a lot of little black stonefly’s hatching the last few days on the Metolius. Fish will eat this little hatch quite well so add some 16-18 black elk hair Caddis to the selection for the next … Continue reading “New” Hatch alert

Crooked BUMPED to 915 cfs

December 30, 2024December 30, 2024flyfishersplace

Well shoot, but the Crooked went way up to 915 cfs and that is pretty high to safely navigate the river. Watch for it to go back down soon, but for now I would fish one of the spring fed rivers like the Metolius or the Fall River

Merry Christmas & Winter Solstice Report 12/21/24

December 21, 2024December 21, 2024flyfishersplace

We saw some good days on the water this week, including some really warm days on the Lower Deschutes where eggs and green rock worms were doing quite well on the trout. Our friend Ed gave us a glowing report a couple of days ago. Overall the Metolius has been fishing really well too, and … Continue reading Merry Christmas & Winter Solstice Report 12/21/24

Jeff’s kind of a fishing report 12/13/24 and other good info

December 13, 2024December 13, 2024flyfishersplace

The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. You've heard about fly tying weather? This is it. I mean, if you want to fish, sure, there are some very good open waters and hardly any crowds. If you dress well you will be great for a good session on the river. I … Continue reading Jeff’s kind of a fishing report 12/13/24 and other good info

Jeff’s fishing report 12/8/24

December 8, 2024December 8, 2024flyfishersplace

good morning from Sisters, Oregon. The Holiday spirit is alive and well in our little town and the town is lit up beautifully with lights, wreaths and a great Christmas Tree at the park 2 blocks from the shop. I really love Christmas time for the lights and songs and time with people I like … Continue reading Jeff’s fishing report 12/8/24

Meteorological Winter Fishing Report 12/1/24

December 1, 2024December 1, 2024flyfishersplace

Happy Winter. We are in a gorgeous stretch of calm and sunny weather in Sisters, with cold nights and nippy mornings, but it certainly warms up enough to get on the rivers for some fishing time by later morning and throughout the afternoon. While I am still recovering from surgery (more on that later) I … Continue reading Meteorological Winter Fishing Report 12/1/24
