The water is slowly dropping and is running in the 600 cfs range. Some areas make that level fine to fish, and other areas I believe it is still too high for good access. March Browns are hatching and should just improve over the next 4 or 5 weeks. Add in a few BWO's and … Continue reading Middle Deschutes report 4/13/17
The Water is still too high at 1200+ cfs but we are watching for the canals to come on in the next 10 to 14 days and that will get us fishable in a hurry. We will update as soon as we know it is good to go. March Browns will be soon to follow!
The water came up a bit more yesterday (over 700 now) but this week the little black stones and midge hatches have been strong and good dry fly fishing from noon to 2 each day. It is tricky wading, with most of us staying out of the currents and just on the edges. It is … Continue reading Middle Deschutes Report 3/17/17
From the area just upstream of Bend down thru town and into Tumalo and Lower Bridge there is some fishing to be had. Above town the water is pretty low, and below town (Bend) the water is pretty high at the moment. We are seeing some Skawlas and Little Black Stones out and fish taking … Continue reading Middle Deschutes Report 3/13/17
From Tumalo to Lake Billy Chinook fishing is good. Pale Evening Duns, Purple Haze, PMD's, Caddis, Rusty Spinners and Float-n-Fool's are great on top. Frenchie, Soft Hackle PT, Hares Ear, Pale Yellow Euro Jig and Micro Mayfly's under the surface. Czech nymphing is the best!
Salmonfly hatch is still on, golden's too. PMD's, March Browns, PED's, Caddis, Purple Haze, Float-n-Fool and Renegades. Czech Style nymphing is great. Euro Nymphs and Soft Hackle Pheasant Tails.
Salmonflies have made it up to Bend and even up towards the Inn of the 7th Mountain area. So from there all the way down to Steelhead Falls and below to the Lake (LBC) in most places you'll find the big bugs. Pale Evening Duns and Caddis are hatching too, and in some areas will … Continue reading Middle D update 5/3/16
Not many march Browns this week, but good BWO's and Caddis. I can't imagine MB's being over so I'd still be prepared for them. Great nymph fishing, especially Czech style! Stonefly nymph with a Mayfly dropper is our first choice. Don't get too amped over this, but a few, (very few) Salmonflies were spotted below … Continue reading Middle Deschutes Report 4/21/16
Water is low and clear making for easy access and good fishing and wading conditions. March Browns, BWO's and even a few Pale Evening Duns hatching now. Great nymph fishing with little mayfly nymphs, copper john, pale yellow jig, rainbow warrior and skinny nelsons.
Water is a little high, but fishable. by this time next week it should be much better with water levels coming down as canals turn on for the season. March Browns and BWO's are hatching well.
