Fall River report 4/21/16

We did a guide trip here 2 days ago and the fish were just not there. I think this is just between ODFW stocking schedules. I looked on their website and the week of the 25th of April they begin putting about 750 fish a week in the river. This will improve the fishery for sure.

I’m not a hatchery fish lover, but the Fall River needs the supplemental stocking to keep it going, so I support the Fall River hatchery program for sure. It would be nice if ODFW could stock it monthly throughout the winter too, and then keep their strong stocking schedule going in the spring and summer.

There are BWO’s hatching now along with lighter hatches of caddis and midges. Ants are also an important dry fly now.

Nymphing is going to be your best bet. Zebra Midges, Micro Mayflies, 2 Bit Hookers and Jigs are my favorites.
