It's been on the slow side out on the Crooked. Not totally dead, but the water is low and quite cold. I'd recommend fishing lower down from MP 11 to about MP 15 and focus on Scuds and Midges with a NZ Wool Indicator and 6 or 7X fluorocarbon tippet. About 3 or 4 PM … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 1/15/19
The warmer weather this week makes the Crooked a go again. Last weeks chill has subsided and the river is again more open from the ice. Don't expect 50 fish days, but expect a soft bite with a lot of fish coming to tiny midge nymphs and very small baetis nymphs and a few scuds. … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 12/13/18
The Cold Snap with the night time lows in the single digits and day time highs not getting above freezing have iced up the Crooked pretty good. Sure, there is some open water, but the water is really cold and the metabolic rate of everything living in there is in near hibernation mode. If you … Continue reading Crooked River pretty frozen 12/6/18
We headed out to the Crooked 2 days ago and found a lot of fish looking up for an Olive Sparkle Dun and KD Dun. My wife did best on dries and I did better on nymphs. My best combo was a Skinny Nelson with a Downey's BWO dropper. 2 things that made a difference … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 11/17/18
The Crooked is fishing well, but please keep in mind that at 60 cubic feet per second the fish are kegged up and vulnerable to getting caught a lot. Know when to say I got enough, I can give them a break. In other words, don't be a fish hog and catch 100 fish a … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 10/25/18
Great fishing, PMD's and BWO's mixed in the afternoon and excellent nymphing, especially....You guessed it, Euro Nymphing.
PMD and BWO hatches are strong and the fish are really looking up on the dries in the afternoon. We've also been hammering fish on small Mayfly nymphs, Zebra Midges, Scuds and Euro Jigs. If you want to go learn how to Euro Nymph, Ben, Mary Ann, Adam, Troy and Steve are all amazing teachers … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 9/22/18
Its awesome. Tons on little nymphs and a very good PMD hatches. Some BWO's are coming on mixed in with some (and likely improving) Mahogany Duns. We are killing it Euro Nymping. If you need us to tie you a Euro Nymph Leader we either have them done or can do a custom tie for … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 9/6/18
The Crooked is very good now with better PMD hatches in the afternoon, and absolutely killer nymphing. Euro Nymphs, Micro May's, Split Case Emergers and Zebra Midges are smacking them. At dusk there are a good amount of Rusty Spinners with plenty of sippers.
The Crooked is another river holding up well for us. Plenty of cold water spilling from the bottom of the dam makes for great habitat for the first 10 miles or so downstream. Anyway, the fishing is good to very good, especially nymphing with Euro Nymph techniques. Afternoon hatches of PMD's are bringing a lot … Continue reading Crooked River fishing report 8/10/18
