Still no access to 3 Creeks Lake. As of today the snow gate is still locked.
We always joke about when the 1st call will come into the shop asking "if 3 Creeks is Open?". The answer is No. Not even close. I'd say look for opening to be in mid to late June this year. There is nearly 100 inches of snow still at 6400 feet. BTW, the first call … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake
It's getting cold up on the lake at 6500 feet, so water temps are getting down there, but the fish are still active on the shorelines and out to about 10-12' off shore. Stripping Leeches and Micky Finns has been taking some great fish. Look for water boatman and scuds to be productive. Soft Hackles … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake report 10/3/18
It was good all week up on the lake. The best success was coming on slow sinking lines stripping leeches with small mayfly nymph droppers. We are also getting some good, strong Brook Trout days on Micky Finns. Strip them fast. Some dry fly action with dwindling callibaetis hatches and a few caddis, midges and … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake fishing report 9/22/18
While it won't be long before the higher altitude lakes start slowing down, at the moment 3 Creeks is still hot! Good fishing on Callibaetis, Black X Caddis, Chironomids, Leeches and Buggers, Ants and Beetles and Water Boatman. It can really fun to strip a Micky Finn along the shore line for aggressive pre-spawn Brookies … Continue reading 3 Creeks Lake fishing report 9/6/18
There are still really good hatches of Callibaetis. Hard to say how much longer that will stay so good at that elevation? But right now the hatches are still impressive most days. We've been having fun dry fly action in the late afternoon and going to dark on Black X Caddis and our Black Butte … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake fishing report 8/24/18
the elevation sure helps 3 Creeks and fishing continues to be good. Callibaetis hatches are good in the afternoon and then very good black caddis action at dusk. We've also had good luck trolling an Olive Wooly Bugger with a Red Ice Cream Cone or Olive Flashback PT trailed about 2 feet back.
Love our high mountain lake and what it offers for us so close to home. Cool water and plenty of Callibaetis, Midges and Black Caddis with a few big Traveling Sedges showing up. Lot's of Dry Fly action from 4 PM to 5:30 and again from 8 to dark. Olive leeches and red chironomids are … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake report 7/27/18
Our little local lake has been pretty darn good all week, with callibaetis, black caddis, leeches and damsel nymphs. Worth trolling an intermediate line with a black or olive leech trailed with a callibaetis nymph when you see nothing on the surface. I love fishing a (non-bead) Hares Ear under a NZ Yarn indicator on … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake fishing report 7/20/18
It's been great up in the high country this week. Tons of Callibaetis hatches and the fish are loving the dry fly! We've also had great fishing under an indicator with Callibaetis nymphs hanging 1 to 4 feet under yarn or corq. Intermediate and Type 3 full sinking lines are picking up a fair number … Continue reading Three Creeks Lake report 7/10/18
