Metolius River Report 7/31/15

Some darn good PMD hatches have been coming off most afternoons around 1 to 3. There is another bigger mayfly mixed in called Ameletus which are matched nicely with a #12 Flav/Small Green Drake pattern. In fact I took this trout on a #12 GD Film Critic which imitated the emerging Ameletus.

In the early evening you should run into BWO’s. Our new #18 Purple Comparadun is a very good fly for the Metolius when baetis are hatching but the film critic, CDC parachute and winger emerger are hot bugs to match them too.
The caddis hatches are OK, and usually improve a lot in August se we will look forward to that. Pretty much every evening though you can get fish up on an Iris Caddis.
At dusk spinner falls are strong.

Golden Stone hatches are good in the Upper River from Gorge to the Headwaters…and don’t overlook Yellow Sally hatches now too. Sometimes people won’t notice the smaller stones mixed in but they are very important. Yellow Sally’s extend through all sections of the river now.

Bull Trout fishing is better than average with some large fish showing up around Bridge 99 to the Canyon.
