this is the 1st time in a while I’ve written “fishing” in the report. While the river is still not at the perfect level, it came down so much it is definitely fishable today at 450’ish cfs.
We prefer the Crooked in the range of flow from 75 to 275 cfs. So 450 is still high but really fishable at that level.
A couple of things we’ve found productive in high water in the past are:
1) Fish nymphs close to the bank lines as the fish will be pushed to the edges more due to the higher flows
2) Swinging Buggers and small Sculpins can be quite good when the water is higher.
Keep an eye open for BWO’s and risers again. I would not imagine the dry fly fishing is going to be to good until the water gets back to normal.
I’m hopeful next week we will see 250 cfs. Keep your fingers crossed with me!
