Metolius River fishing report 7/29/19

The fishing this summer is great, we’ve been continuing to have great hatches and nymph fishing and we are seeing the 1st of the lake run Bull Trout!

Hatches include PMD’s, Blue Wing Olives, Rusty Spinners, Tan Caddis #16, Olive #16-18, Yellow and Black Caddis #20, Yellow Sally #16, Golden Stones #8-10, and now that August is knock, knock, knocking at our door look for afternoon hatches of Amelitus which is a beautiful Olive Mayfly about a size 14 that we have some sweet imitations for.

Still hammering on Perdigon’s and Jigs, plus Frenchies, Golden Stone nymphs, Micro May’s, Zebra Midges, Rainbow Warriors and Red Copper Johns.

Bull Trout that come up from the lake often hide along the banks and in the logs for their first visit up river, so try jigging heavy flies around the deep bank runs and logs. Of course swinging the runs is always a great bet.

Speaking of swinging, one of the guys who works in the shop good his micro spey out a few mornings ago and swung small soft hackles with good success.
