Deschutes River fishing report 3/20/20

The Middle Deschutes is running 427 cfs out of Bend, so after Tumalo Creek comes in it’ll be a bit higher from Tumalo State Park to Lake Billy Chinook. That is high’ish, but certainly fishable. Careful access can provide very good fishing now.
March Browns are on.
Of course there will be some BWO’s, a few midges and a few caddis about, but it seems the fish want to eat the MB’s and BWO’s.
Your nymph rod and streamer rod should be at the ready on any given day. In the higher flows like this a streamer is very fun and can be effective more so than when the water is low and you’re hanging it up all the time.

The Lower D out of Madras is running about 4000 cfs, so pretty low. Remember its still a month out for the Warm Springs, Mecca, Trout Creek and South Jct Season to open (4/22) but the Maupin area is great.
March Browns are finally coming off down there and the Euro nymph action is very good.
