Lakes Update May 27th, 2025

A few quick notes on the lakes today.

Hosmer Lake is open and accessible to the ramp. Fishing is very good in both ends of the lake.
Chironomids, Leeches, Water Boatman, Scuds, Damsels, Callibaetis in Nymph form so far, but the hatch will likely be next week to start the new season….

Paulina Lake is fishing great. Red PT’s and Ice Cream Cones were hot today. Red Holographic Jig and Callibaetis Cate were also good nymphs for us today, but the Red PT was magical.
Launching in the overflow parking lot of the PL CG is doable. No Dock but it’s an ok ramp.
I used the resort today because I prefer the docks they have.
The road in to the Camp Ground and the main ramp and parking area is still covered in deep snow and a lot of trees are down. It’s a mess. I’d guess 3 weeks for that to open??

East Lake is also fishing really well. My friend Jesse has a good session last night on Purple Haze and hooked a giant on a Booby with a Type 7 Line.
Chrironomids, Black Double Down, Callibaetis nymphs, Balanced Leeches and Scuds are good bets now.
I’m using the resort ramp for $10. Hot Springs is open. Jesse went in at EL CG. USFS still hasn’t done anything to remove the steel concrete connecter from the ramp even though we’ve asked for them to do so for 2 years. Be careful on that, it will rip a tire open for sure. If anyone has the tools to cut it off, I’d say go for it. You’ll be a local legend!

Crane Prairie is getting a bloom, so the water in some parts of the lake is dirty olive. But you should find clear water near the entrances of the Deschutes, Cultus and Quinn. And when fishing in the channels the moving water keeps the water clear at the bottom so hanging your flies under the indicator a foot off the depth your sounder shows should keep your flies in totally clear water anyway.
I’ve had several reports of the best bite being early in the morning and it dying off by noon.

I have not had a report form Lava Lake or Little Lava yet. Anyone?

Three Creeks Lake is still snowed in and it will be at least 3 more weeks before we get there. maybe more….

I can get 2 more people in for Phil Rowley’s chironomid clinic this friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and 10 more for the tying clinic this saturday. Call the shop and leave me a message. I will be at Paulina again tomorrow but I will call you back on Thursday when I am in the shop. $75 per clinic.
if there are any kids under 21 reading this and you have a genuine interest in the clinics, I have 2 free spots for you from some one who can’t make it and wanted to donate it to a deserving person.

See you on the water. It is definitely good out there!

Jeff
