Opening Day Fishing Report for 2020

April 21, 2020April 21, 2020flyfishersplace 2 Comments

Well, it is going to be a weird opener for trout season in 2020. Everything is a bit weird now, so we go with the flow. I know a lot of us are excited to see the lakes opening up.I just spoke with my Special Use Coordinator at the Bend Office of USFS, and he … Continue reading Opening Day Fishing Report for 2020

General State of the Union Fishing (or Not) report 4/2/20

April 2, 2020April 2, 2020flyfishersplace 7 Comments

I wanted to write this yesterday, but figured on April Fools Day it might be perceived as a joke. It is no Joke. If you are worried about going out and getting a ticket while fishing, or cant figure out access, YOU are absolutely a person who should be sheltering in place at your home. … Continue reading General State of the Union Fishing (or Not) report 4/2/20

Metolius River fishing report 3/7/20

March 7, 2020March 7, 2020flyfishersplace

we just got home from Argentina and I have been jealous hearing stories about good the Metolius has been since we left. March is an excellent month for the Metolius. The trend is always good in March with more hatches, more mature nymphs in the drift and longer and warmer days. BWO's, and lot's of … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 3/7/20

Metolius River Fishing Report 1/31/20

January 31, 2020flyfishersplace

Fishing has been the best I can ever remember on the Metolius for January. I expect this trend to continue in to February as long as the weather pattern doesn't hit us with an arctic blast or a huge pineapple express that could flood the tributaries. Each afternoon about noon to 2 we've seen good … Continue reading Metolius River Fishing Report 1/31/20

Metolius River Fishing report 12/16/19

December 16, 2019flyfishersplace

Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the river, creatures were stirring, even Mr. Bull Trout. The streamers were tied each night, sitting by the stove, in hopes that a Bull Trout would soon light our fire. The anglers were nestled all snug in their beds, with visions of big fish dancing in their … Continue reading Metolius River Fishing report 12/16/19

Metolius River fishing report 12/7/19

December 7, 2019flyfishersplace

We've been seeing an afternoon hatch of mostly BWO's, but a couple of days ago there were some small yellow stoneflies, some grey caddis and some straggler cinygmula's hatching. Fish were rising to the BWO's mostly, but there were a few crushing rise forms that indicated maybe there were a few fish eating the stones. … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 12/7/19

Metolius River fishing report 11/22/19

November 22, 2019flyfishersplace

I got home from Cuba and headed to the Metolius two days later. My favorite place in the world to fish and just be! We weren't disappointed with the afternoon hatch that was a mix of BWO and Cinygmula about 1 in the afternoon. Fish were coming up to emergers and we got fish on … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 11/22/19

Metolius River fishing report 11/1/19

October 31, 2019flyfishersplace

The report guy is going fishing in Cuba 11/1 to 11/14 so unless the weather gets crazy this report should hold up until he is back. Yesterdays dry fly action was again really impressive after the cold snap earlier in the week. All it took was another warm day to get the hatches rolling well … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 11/1/19

Metolius River fishing report 10/23/19

October 23, 2019flyfishersplace

Sorry for the delayed report, the report guy had to go in for emergency surgery and wasn't energetic enough to get his Sh*t together. The Metolius continues to fish well, with BWO's, the end of PMD's for the season (see you next spring ephemerella's), the beginning of Cinygmula (hey, it's cool, you look like a … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 10/23/19

Metolius Fishing Report 10/2/19

October 2, 2019flyfishersplace

This week there are still quite a few #10-12 Green Drakes on the water. Won't last too many more days but its on now. PMD, BWO and Mahogany duns continue to fish well from noon to 4 or 5, and if it's a warmer evening the caddis and rusty spinners will be out until dusk, … Continue reading Metolius Fishing Report 10/2/19
