Fishing is good, with Golden Stone dries and nymphs being dominate in the upper river from the Gorge up to the Headwaters area.
Zebra Midges, Euro Jigs, 2 Bit Hookers and Frenchies continue to be excellent now.
PMD hatches are running late in the afternoon for the most part. Usually in the 3 to 4 range, but weather and daily conditions can change that timing so be prepared for them anytime from 10 am to 7 pm or so.
BWO are primarily hatching in the evening and fish are looking for emerging flies or duns.
Rusty Spinners are on the water at dusk.
Yellow Sally hatches are strong now which is typical for August.
There is a meaty olive mayfly #12-14 that is a lot like a Flav that comes off from the Canyon down in the afternoon this time of year. Our Flav (jeff’s flav) or a #12-14 Purple Comparadun or #12 Film Critic matches these well.
Caddis are out in good numbers with micro caddis numbers increasing. We have tiny Iris Caddis to match the hatch for those. For the more standard caddis, Olive and Brown Iris, Missing Link and CDC Caddis are all strong choices.
Guys are reporting good Bull Trout catches. One of the holes I was fishing in a few days ago had 2 Bull’s sitting in with the rainbows. It was awesome to see, but me with my 10 foot 4 weight and PMD’s wasn’t going to attract any of the big guys. All of my Bull Trout buddies are talking about fish coming to big, all white streamers. We’ve got that covered for you!
