Metolius River fishing report 1/15/19

January 15, 2019flyfishersplace

January has been good on the Metolius with decent afternoon BWO hatches, some little black stones (which should get going more in a week or so), Midges, October Caddis and Silver Stripe Sedge. The fish are looking for Nymphs, Emergers and Adults of all of the above so the fishing is active. The standby Golden … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 1/15/19

Metolius River fishing report 12/13/18

December 13, 2018flyfishersplace

I played hooky from the shop and went to the river with a friend today. What a day. We stuck with big streamers and sink tips and did well on Bull Trout. Saw fish rising to BWO's, and also saw a few Cinygmula's and quite a few October Caddis hatching today. I ran into some … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 12/13/18

Metolius River fishing report 12/6/18

December 6, 2018flyfishersplace

Our early December has been off to a very positive start on both trout and Bull Trout. Mostly on nymphs, but with the BT's they are eating a swung streamer quite well. Some afternoon BWO hatches, and quite a few October Caddis are hatching. Our best success with trout (and whitefish) this week has been … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 12/6/18

Metolius River fishing report 11/17/18

November 17, 2018flyfishersplace

It's been a November to remember, with better than average fishing, and seeing how long the Kokanee lasted this fall. It looks like the Kokanee are finally done with the last of them pretty rotten and rolling & drifting along the bottom. This means plenty of eggs. Yep, fish an egg fly. Today they were … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 11/17/18

Metolius River fishing report 10/25/18

October 25, 2018flyfishersplace

Fishing is very good on the entire river, with dries and nymphs for trout and big streamers for Bully's. In the upper river from the Headwater stretch down to the Gorge here are good hatches of Caddis, October Caddis, PMD, BWO (#1), a few Mahogany Duns and at this point the Golden Stones are Kaput. … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 10/25/18

Metolius River fishing report 10/3/18

October 3, 2018flyfishersplace

The September madness is over but with the good weather the trend is still great on the Metolius. I'd guess we will see Drakes for another few days. Boy oh Boy, was the September Drake hatch phenomenal this year. PMD's, BWO's and Mahogany Duns will continue to be important for the rest of October. This … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 10/3/18

Metolius River fishing report 9/22/18

September 22, 2018flyfishersplace 1 Comment

I got on the river a couple of times this week and it was awesome. Early in the week it was a dry fly day on the middle river and yesterday on the upper river all I carried was my Euro Nymph rod and a box of nymphs. Both days were fun and very productive … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 9/22/18

Metolius September Madness 9/6/18

September 6, 2018flyfishersplace

I love writing September reports for the Metolius. So many hatches to talk about. Mayflies:  Green Drakes #8-10 2 pm to 5 pm especially from the Canyon down to Bridge 99 and below. Flavs #12-14 2 pm to 5 pm. A smaller Drake that overlaps the big guys. Important in September especially for the next … Continue reading Metolius September Madness 9/6/18

Metolius River fishing report 8/24/18

August 24, 2018flyfishersplace

The Metolius is improving every day as we quickly slide in to September which is the month I've always considered to be the very best time to fish the river. Right now there are a ton of Bull Trout coming up from the lake and lower river to spawn in the creeks. (remember the creeks … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 8/24/18

Metolius River fishing report 8/10/18

August 10, 2018flyfishersplace

The beautiful Metolius is of course holding up very well in the heat too. Spring fed water is a gift in temperature extremes and we have had some awfully hot weather this week. Plenty of hatches. PMD's, early evening BWO's, Ameletus (Purple Comparadun #12-14), Rusty Spinners, Caddis (mostly #16-18....waiting for the massive summer Micro Caddis, … Continue reading Metolius River fishing report 8/10/18
